We are pleased to welcome Katie Matlock to Bloom Sluggett as an associate attorney focusing her practice on criminal and civil ordinance enforcement.
Katie brings a decade of public-sector experience to the firm, having served for ten years as an assistant prosecuting attorney with both the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office. During that time, she built a reputation as a skilled trial attorney, prosecuting a broad range of misdemeanor and felony matters and handling cases that required sound judgment, preparation, and courtroom confidence.
Early in her career, Katie played a key role in the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office as coordinator of the Operation Graduation truancy program, working closely with schools and families to support student attendance and accountability. She also completed specialized Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training and is recognized as a DRE prosecutor in the State of Michigan.
Katie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hope College, graduating summa cum laude, and went on to earn her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law. While in law school, she gained additional experience through internships with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Michigan and the Montcalm County Prosecutor’s Office.
Known for her commitment to public service and practical approach to problem-solving, Katie works closely with the communities she serves and brings a steady, thoughtful presence to every matter she handles.
Outside the office, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, Bryan, and their dog, Griffin. She stays active through biking, running, hiking, and attending sporting events, and she’s also an accomplished musician who plays trumpet with the Scottville Clown Band.
We’re excited to have Katie on our team and look forward to the experience and perspective she brings to our clients and communities.
